Maintaining You - For Them

          One of most important things a mom can do is to make sure she is a viable resource for her family.  In this hurried and harried world we often feel that this is unrealistic and allow ourselves to become overwrought to the point of collapse.  Or perhaps we go the other way and become overly indulgent to compensate for being overwhelmed which may result in feeling guilty – this can become an unending circle. 

        One way to make sure that we are an asset for those around us is some basic supplementation.  As women we tend to lose minerals at each menses.  So a good mineral supplement is essential.  Mineral Chi Tonic is one of my favorites but in truth is has a rather unpleasant taste.  Herbal CA is a good encapsulated supplement, HSN-W is another good source of general mineral supplementation.  Nature’s Sunshine Products has recently come out with a children’s line which includes four “gummy” type supplements that, while designed for children are very parent friendly as well.  The Multi Vitamin & Minerals provides whole foods and is flavored with fruit juices NOT refined sugars and artificial colors.  These are pleasant to take and easy to take even when traveling.  The Omega 3 supplement is really good for brain health; which allows for a less stressed feeling even on busy days as the brain has resources to deal with stress. Children need these beneficial oils in order to nourish a growing brain but mom’s need those same nutrients as we age to allay things such as dementia.  They also have Calcium Plus D3 and Whole Foods Antioxidants to boost natural immunity, all in the soft chew “gummy” style supplement.

            Now as a mom you can feel that you are last on the list for fun and enjoyable things so taking your supplements in this way may make you feel just a little spoiled while giving you the nutrition you need to keep going.  Another big help is the Ultimate Green Zone, which I like to make into a shake using the Avocado Milk recipe.  To this you can add supplements for anything you may wish to address such as Flash Ease for hormone balance or Proactazyme for digestive health.

Vaccine Panic ! 

           Now that the medical community has developed a marketable injection in connection with theSwine Flu there is a resurgence of discussion on the topic.  Since May we have been spared the hype of media coverage on this subject but as the “Flu Season” begins in Australia and looms ever closer here in the US and Canada we are again being bombarded with the fear and panic of last spring. 

            The new target – Pregnant women.  The idea that these people need to be vaccinated at all costs is a little frightening.  The success rate for vaccination against this NON-LIFE-THREATENING disease is expected to be less than 50% so new fear needs to be used insure compliance.  However there is another source of concern; Polysorbate 80 (Squalene).

              First, let me assure you that the idea of injecting disease and other contaminates into anyone is naturally abhorrent but to do so to a woman seeking to bring forth new life is doubly so.  The use of this particular substance ignores the fact that laboratory animals showed that its use “Caused changes to the vagina and womb lining, hormonal changes and ovary deformities.”  [see below]

            Bearing this in mind; it is never good to be ill, no matter how mildly, while pregnant so a woman needs to take the proper steps to ensure that her immune system is working at top efficiency.  Eating well, taking things like Ultimate Green Zone and anything else that would help in this effort.  Appropriate exercise and plenty of fresh pure water are also important.

            This new assault on health is really the same old song and dance with a slight variation in rhythm just to give it an up-to-date feel.  Wisdom and knowledge will always set us free from the dangers that panic can bring.  Seek learning, trust God and be wise.

Get Well - Stay Well

“FLU SEASON” is generally something we think of as the summer turns to winter and cold weather sets in. With the media screaming about the Swine Flu recently it is on our minds now and will only get even more coverage as drugs become available for this newest man-made health issue.

Numbers flash across the news with alarming inconsistency making for confusion and concern. These statistics show suspected cases and school closings but no comparison is made with the number of cases of strep throat or Rhino virus.

Panic is the biggest pandemic. So let’s take this problem and use it to help us prepare for future problems. First let’s look at some of the things that can be done safely and effectively to prevent illness and better enjoy health and wellness;

1) Eating Well – It is not hard to find fresh things in our bounteous stores these days but let’s not forget the foods that are specifically created for winter time. If you live where you can grow a garden all year round then eating foods like salads and strawberries will be appropriate for your body but if you live in a climate like that pictured above then add in root vegetables, winter squash and more concentrated proteins. Beans and soy products for vegetarians and A blood types, meats for you O types and fermented/aged dairy for you B types. Eating right is important to keep illness at bay. Drinking lots of water may not seem as natural when we are not perspiring as much but it is still essential so develop a routine that calls for frequent libation! Supplementation that gives overall assistance to the system like Noni, Ultimate Green Zone and Thai-Go fill in the gaps that inevitable come with the busy lives we lead. 

2) Probiotics are important as they keep the more damaging bacteria in check.  Chewables like L Reuteri or encapsulated combinations like Probiotic 11 will help in this effort. Tonsillitis

This is a real problem for many people.  The tonsils are designed to gather infection and flush it through the system using the Lymph nodes.  When this system becomes congested or sluggish it creates a back-up just like a clogged sewage system.  Opening the bowels and providing additional fluids help but the infection festers and causes pain and debilitation.  In small children the infection can travel up the Eustation Tubes to the ear.  These tubes are almost perpendicular to the throat in an infant but elongate and develop more of an angle as the child matures.  This is one reason ear infection is more prevalent in young children.

     Medically there are two things that can be done before removing these organs altogether;

  1. Antibiotics – These powerful drugs will destroy ALL bacteria in the system – good and bad – and leave a void which is often filled with even stronger strains of bacteria like MRSA and Candida.  They are also connected with allergies which can be life-threatening.
  2. Pain Control – The use of pain killers such as Ibuprofen and Tylenol are common but not without their own risk. 

While these things seem questionable no parent can sit by an idly watch as their child suffers so what is a parent to do?  Fortunately there are alternatives;

  1. can be dropped into the ear and held for up to 20 minutes.  It can also be sprayed on the throat to get things from both ends.  This puts the infection in direct contact with the silver solution which will destroy the infectious microbes – whether bacterial or viral – and allow the body to heal as it was designed to do.  I have seen the pockets of infection disappear in a matter of hours after spraying and gargling with Silver Shield.
  2. Diet needs to be considered.  If there are a lot of candy and dairy products in the diet it may be well to curtail them for a time.  Fresh pressed carrot juice is very healing, sweet and appetizing even for children as young as 3 months.

If you are in doubt as to what tonsillitis looks like this is a rather nasty but accurate picture of a throat with tonsillitis.  The ream just means that the tonsils – those little sacks on either side of the uvula – are inflamed.  When you see the ending “itis” on a word it means inflamed; not necessarily infected.  When the small yellow-white bubbles appear then it is classic tonsillitis.  These pockets of infection are what the Silver Shield will eradicate and keep from spreading.  Then the inflammation can go down and the throat can heal.  

 
Ear Infection

Ears and throats are so closely connected that all of the things that apply to Tonsillitis also apply to Ear Infections.  Also the same remedies apply.  The only real difference is where you put the Silver solution.  Even then you can apply it both places just remember that the solution needs to be in contact with the infectious microbes for 6 minutes to destroy them.  If it is in the ear allow time for the solution to travel into the tubes – up to half an hour.  Perhaps putting it in as the child sleeps on your lap or while you are reading a story would help to keep the child calm and still for that period of time.  While illness is not desirable it can be a time to make tender memories.  I have sweet memories of my mother tending to me in times of illness and the quiet moments when her focus was all me – tender memories indeed.

Ear tubes are a last-ditch effort by the medical community and should be considered very carefully, including the risk of infection by a hospital grade bacterium such as MRSA due to the procedure.  I mention these things as information NOT to frighten anyone into doing something they will regret.  There is usually more information available than we first realize so keep looking and you will find!

As for the comfort of the person with the infection you might try one of the following;

  1. An onion can be cut in half, warmed well – NOT HOT – and placed on the ear.  This sounds so odd but I have seen it work time after time.
  2. Warm mullein, garlic or lobelia oil can be placed in the ear for relief and healing.

The most important thing to remember is that this too shall pass and life will again be comfortable for the whole family.  Build and cleans, keep thing warm, moist and well fed and the body will do the rest.

When a child comes to us from Heaven we rejoice and celebrate life's renewal. We often reflect on our own mortality and pray that we will be good and capable parents, grandparents, siblings etc. It seems there is so much to know and do. This little one depends on us to make wise choices in his/her behalf. So where can a parent go to find out how to best care for their child? May I suggest that the billboards and city buses may not be the most reliable source? If you see advertising on public transportation or TV that seems incomplete or incorrect then feel free to look elsewhere. Today the idea seems to be that emotional appeal is superior to accurate information. While the internet has a great deal of false information it also contains a great deal of well documented and valid information - just consider the source. If an article cites medical journals and studies rather than just attempting to cause guilt and a knee-jerk reaction then keep reading. Becoming informed as to the dangers and efficacy of medications offered - even for free - is the right and responsibility of every one of us in this free nation. Do not give away your options because Everyone else is doing it.

Travel Tips  
Recently our son traveled to Kenya and Uganda with a wonderful program designed to teach the people in that part of the world some gardening techniques that have made it possible to feed whole villages in a simple and labor saving manner. They also taught children basic hygiene and abstinence. This is a part of the world rife with disease and disorders of many kinds. As they prepared to go we put together some natural aids to keeping the immune system strong and to avoid Malaria and other diseases carried by insects such as mosquitoes. It was recommended that the participants in this venture take a drug for Malaria which had some pretty death defying potential side effects. While this parasite driven disease is a worry there are things that can be done which do not compromise the health and safety of the individual. Using the Nature's Sunshine combination THIM-J and Olive Leaf to keep the immune system functioning at top levels and drinking water with lemon juice or Lemon essential oil helps the body do what it was designed to do -stay well! Lastly we deal with insects. These little guys are looking for a meal and will get one in the most appealing place. So making one's self the LEAST appealing place is a good idea. Smell is a good place to start. The use of encapsulated Garlic, Vitamin B and essential oils make this one easy - and with NO side effects. A combination of Tea Tree oil (4oz) and Citronella (4 oz) make a good base for other oils such as Bergamot, Sage and Lavender.
